I-20 lane closure in Brandon could last past midnight

Posted: Updated:
BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

MDOT officials say it could be another seven hours before the right lane and exit ramp on Interstate 20 at Exit 56 in Brandon are opened to traffic. The alert was issued around 7 p.m.

An 18-wheeler broke into pieces Tuesday afternoon when it ran off the roadway.

The truck was headed west when it veered into the median, across the eastbound lanes, and down an embankment at the downtown Brandon exit.

The rig landed on its side, and all its cargo was thrown out  across the grassy shoulder.

The driver was not seriously injured.  There's still no word on what caused the truck to veer off the highway.

One lane of westbound traffic and the exit ramp have been closed since before 5 p.m.

Motorists should avoid the area and seek alternate routes if possible.
