JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
A Rankin County woman, whose car was stolen in Jackson, is not satisfied with the way she has been treated by the Jackson Police Department. She says officers have spotted her vehicle before, but have failed to make an arrest.
Cassie Greer, 29, works at the Comprehensive Pain Center in Jackson and had her 1997 Honda Accord stolen out of the Baptist Medical Center parking garage last Thursday. The car is gold, but looks like this 1996 Accord, which Bob Boyte Honda let us photograph on their used car lot.
"A car is a necessary thing to have and not to have someone who refuses to work to just come and take from you," said Greer. "And people that are being paid to serve and protect, to treat me like I am the criminal and say how can they help me, and I'm doing their job, researching and trying to find where my car is."
Deputy Chief Brent Winstead of the Jackson Police Department confirmed officers had been behind the vehicle since it was stolen and the tag switched.
"The officer disengaged in that pursuit and she obviously didn't like the fact that we discontinued, but you know that's kind of a double edge sword there," said Winstead. "A lot of times we could have been chasing that car, and the car would have hit another vehicle, then we would have been at fault. So, we have a vehicle pursuit policy."
Winstead said police are still looking for the vehicle.
People at the Baptist parking garage told the victim that they had surveillance video of her car coming into the garage, but did not have pictures of the car leaving the garage.
