Do you want a ticket? No! Well then you certainly need to buckle up!

That's the word from the Mississippi Office of Highway Safety. Lawmen are out in force right now, enforcing Mississippi's seatbelt law.

During a news conference Friday, trauma nurses, lawmen, and advocates said traffic crashes cost this state more than two billion dollars yearly. The consequences are just as grim for critically injured survivors.  Sonia Fogal, LIFE, Program Coordinator is paralyzed from the waist down. She was not properly bucked up when the car wreck occurred. "My wheelchair use is my means of transportation now. It's all about what is put before you. Please it takes not even a second you start the car, get in, just click it. It is so much easier to prevent something than to live with it daily."

In Mississippi, the death rate for people not buckling up is nearly 13 out of every 100-thousand people. Three times higher than other Americans. Lawmen will be out in force, handing out tickets to unbuckled motorist through the Memorial Day holiday May 28th.
