JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Jackson Public School Board of Trustees has approved a contract for the district's new superintendent.

Dr. Cedrick Gray signed his JPS employment contract Monday morning during a special board meeting. Dr. Gray will officially take over as superintendent on July 1, 2012. His contract runs through June 30, 2015.

Dr. Gray will earn $200,000 annually. He says his top priority is making connections with all JPS parents, students and teachers.

"You'll find out real soon that we'll be reaching out to every corner of this city to make sure everybody has an opportunity to provide input, give some feedback and just really have some good conversation about what we want to do together," said Dr. Gray.

Dr. Gray's predecessor, Dr. Lonnie Edwards earned $175,000 annually as the district's superintendent.
