Funeral arrangements have been set for three children killed in a crash on Interstate 55 near Hayti.
Teresa Gaines says the funeral for her three children, Brandaeja Cason, 13, Javon Cason, baby, and Demaggio Gaines, 10, will be Friday, May 25 in Des Moines, Iowa.
The service for all three children will begin at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Family Church at 3114 SW 61st Street in Des Moines, IA.
This service is open to the public but the family will not allow any pictures to be taken.
Missouri Highway Patrol troopers say 28-year-old Cherrina Gaines lost control of the SUV with nine other people after a tire blowout on I-55 near Hayti on May 13. The SUV rolled over several times, throwing everyone out of the vehicle.
There were ten people in the SUV. All were from Jackson, Mississippi.
The victims have been identified as 13-year-old Brandaeja Cason, 10-year-old Demaggio Gaines and an infant, Javon Cason.
Another infant and three other children under the age of 10 and three adults were also hurt. They were either flown or taken by ambulances to hospitals in Memphis and Hayti. All suffered serious injuries.
The group was on their way home to Mississippi.
No one in the SUV was wearing a seatbealt, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.
Troopers say too many people were in the vehicle.
Gaines sustained several fractures in her neck, a broken spine, and several other breaks on her body. She is undergoing treatment in a Des Moines hospital. She said the other people involved in the crash have injuries resulting in broken bones, cuts, bruises, and one is even paralyzed. Gaines and other victims of the crash are undergoing physical therapy and medical treatment on a regular basis.
Gaines will be released from the hospital on Friday so she can attend her children's funeral.
Gaines has opened a bank account set up at Wells Fargo in Des Moines, IA and is accepting donations to help with funeral expenses. Donations can be to the Halls and Gaines donation account in Des Moines, IA. Donations can be made at any Wells Fargo bank.
"This money will go towards the funeral because I want my children to make sure they go home," Gaines said. "I don't want services to be delayed due to lack of funds. I want them to rest in peace and go home."
