Sleep apnea might be linked to cancer

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A new study reveals the problems associated with sleep apnea go way beyond loud snoring.

Researchers say people with severe sleep apnea are five times more likely to die from cancer. The association is stronger among people who are not obese.

Experts stress there is no proof that apnea actually causes cancer ... But animal studies have shown that inadequate oxygen increases tumor growth.

This study was led by researchers at University of Wisconsin-Madison and University of Barcelona and is published in the 'American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.'
