Contraception tested for effectiveness

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Long-lasting contraception, like an I-U-D or implant, appear to be the most effective form of birth control. The methods were tested against birth control pills, the patch, ring and injection.

The women who became pregnant during the study had been on the pill, patch or ring.

Researchers say long-lasting contraception have very low failure rates -- but their high up front cost deters many women from using that method.

Birth control pills also are also highly effective, but the effectiveness depends on women remembering to take the pills at the same time every day.
