PEARL, MS (WLBT) - The UAB Blazers have punched their ticket to Sunday's Conference USA title game against Memphis at Trustmark Park in Pearl.
Playing a role in the Blazer's successful run is former Mississippi State head coach Ron Polk.
Polk is in his fourth season as a volunteer assistant coach at Alabama-Birmingham.
He joined the UAB staff in 2008 after he retired from Mississippi State.
After 29 seasons, Polk left MSU as the winningest coach in any sports in the history of the SEC.
In 2009 he was inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame.
He might be a Blazer now but he still calls Mississippi home.
