Stormy later this week

Our early summer heat wave is about to come to an end. I expect one more really hot day and that will be tomorrow. Highs will range from the lower to middle 90s. After that, we'll enjoy a brief cool down.

The pattern is in the process of changing. This change will allow what amounts to a fairly strong late May cold front to develop and move through Mississippi Thursday and Thursday night. A few heavy storms are possible Wednesday afternoon, but I think the best coverage of storms will be Thursday into Thursday night.

It appears we will have enough weather ingredients over us to allow for some severe weather over the next couple of days. The best chances are Thursday and Thursday night. Large hail and strong straight-line winds will be the main threats, but there will be enough wind shear in place to mention at least a small risk for a tornado or two.

We will fine-tune the timing of the front and the storms, so please check back to our 10PM newscast tonight. Also, Meteorologist Paul Williams will have updates starting at 5am.
