Big dig shuts down Jackson tire shop

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A south Jackson businessman says the City of Jackson has virtually shut down his used tire business on Cooper Road. He called 3 On Your Side for help. We checked out his complaint.

Thomas Donaldson purchased Pat Daddy's Used Tire and Auto Service in February.

"They told me they would probably be here in about 3 weeks. And this was in March. Tomorrow is June 1 and I'm Pat Daddy's and I can't open up because of this big huge hole," said Donaldson.

But he's never had a chance to put out his grand opening signs. That's because there is a grand hole on his property.

"If I was to guess about 8-10 feet and that's huge. It's covering up pretty much half of my parking lot because Pat Daddy's is in the back."

Not just a hole but entrances to his business at 801 Cooper Road are blocked.

"That's why I called 3 On Your Side. I made several calls to the City of Jackson water company and they kept telling me they are going to get somebody here. No one has been out since they put this hole here," said Donaldson.

Frustrated with inaction, the business owner said, "I'm outraged, I'm very outraged about it."

Donaldson walked us around back to the shop, were used tires are piling up instead of going on cars.

"I'm not making any money cause I'm not selling nothing," said Donaldson.

With his business investment virtually closed due to the water sewer work, Donaldson has been forced to moonlight. He told me, "I had to get a part time job in order to feed my family because of this."

So,we called the city to find out about repairs for their big dig. City spokesman Chris Mims told me Thursday afternoon that project is a major water/sewer line repair and it could be finished up in two weeks, depending on the weather.
