Two Jackson public pools still closed

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Two out of nine public pools in Jackson have not yet opened for the summer season.

The Presidential Hills pool won't open until next week due to a mechanical problem. The Mill Street pool should have opened Friday, but according to the city, the lifeguards called in sick. The pool should open Saturday or Monday.

The V.A. Legion pool on Thomas Catchings Drive did not open on Memorial Day weekend, but it finally opened for swimmers Friday afternoon. Families wasted no time jumping in and enjoying the cool waters.

"We're glad it opened. We always try to swim the first week, two weeks into the pool being open, then I don't come anymore," says Sheritte Hill, who brought her daughters.

"We're having a good time, an excellent time. Some of the kids, it's their first time to swim. Some of them not. I brought my kids last time. I have my sister in law's kids this time," says Joseph Towers, who went to the Grove Park pool earlier in the week since the Legion pool was closed.

The pools open at 2pm Monday through Saturday. The pools are closed on Sunday.
