Breast reconstruction might be done with stem cells

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Researchers in Spain may have a new, less invasive way to reconstruct the breasts of women who have lost a breast to cancer.

The process involves taking fat from the abdomen or hip and taking stem cells from the fat. The stem cells are used to regenerate the breast.

Since this is the patient's own fat, there is no chance of rejection so the breast can be reconstructed with natural components. The process may be in use as early at 2014.
