Perry County girl shot and killed, investigation continues

PERRY COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A 4-year-old Perry County girl is dead after being shot by her 7-year-old stepbrother.

The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon in New Augusta on Wingate Cove Road. Officials said the boy was cleaning or playing with the gun when the incident happened.

Sheriff Jimmy Smith issued a statement on June 6 saying an investigation is underway. Smith added at this time it was neither considered an accident or a murder, but declined to elaborate.
