18 wheeler overturns in Pearl

PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

An 18-wheeler overturns at a busy intersection in Pearl on Friday afternoon.

It happened about 1:45 at the intersection of Highway 80 and Flowood Drive.

Police say the driver was attempting to turn east onto Highway 80 when the accident happened.

Traffic was diverted away from the area while crews worked to clear the scene.

The 18 wheeler was hauling several large rolls of paper and that may have contributed to the accident.

"He apparently snagged the median, right there, just enough to tilt his truck and get that momentum of the truck and this heavy load of paper tilting and over he went," says Pearl Police Department Public Information Officer Lt. Butch Townsend.

The unidentified driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Townsend says crews hoped to have the scene cleared in time for the afternoon rush hour.
