JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
We're learning more about the state inmate who escaped from the Hinds County jail Monday night, and was captured in Brookhaven Thursday.
We've learned that James Hopkins was in the Hinds County Detention Center on a court order. Captain Joseph Daughtry says he was to be sentenced for a crime in Hinds County. Daughtry is looking into what that crime was.
The 34 year old had arrived at the jail on May 20, according to Daughtry. He was already serving a 20-year sentence for grand larceny, possession with intent to manufacture, and for a prior escape. He now faces an additional escape charge.
Hopkins had escaped through a door with a faulty lock. He is now back in the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Pearl.
