CANTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
This is the first 2013 Altima to roll into Gray Daniels Nissan North in Jackson. It has a sign on it saying demonstrator only.
Nissan claims it is the most fuel efficient, gasoline, mid size car in America, getting 38 miles per gallon on the road and 27 in town.
Michael Savell, General Manager of Gray Daniels north predicts it will be a big seller.
"I don't think we will be able to keep them on the lot. It's aerodynamic, it's a different model altogether from what we have in the Altima, it was time for it to be redesigned, it's a great design, it was ready and it's here," Savell said.
By the end of the year, the Canton plant will operate three shifts, along with Nissan's other plant in Tennessee, to maximize production of the Altima.
Bert: "How were they able to make that four cylinder engine get 38 miles to the gallon?"
Savell: "Things that are obvious, one is less weight, aerodynamic, I will leave it to the engineers for the rest."
The Altima comes complete with a push button starter.
Gray Daniels expects to have Altimas for sale by next week.
