Suspect identified in Madison shooting

MADISON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Madison police have identified the suspected gunman in a Friday night shooting.

Chief Gene Waldrop says an arrest warrant has been issued for Javier Jhamone Adams, 23.

Waldrop says Adams lives on Gross Road in Madison County.

Once in custody, he'll be charged with one count of aggravated assault.

Investigators say Tommy Gipson, 50, of Brandon was shot twice in the leg.

The gunfire apparently erupted in a vacant lot on in the 1,300 block of North Livingston Road about 10:15 p.m.

It's unclear what may have sparked the gunfire.

Gipson was treated and released from a local hospital.

The incident remains under investigation.
