JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
If you've ever thought about buying a home, but weren't sure if you could, this might be the time to take the plunge.
June is known as National Homeownership Month, and today the Mississippi Housing Partnership held a housing fair at their headquarters on West Street in Jackson. Housing counselors are on-site for this event, to help potential buyers navigate through financial questions, credit issues and first-time buyer programs.
Executive Director Tim Collins says foreclosures can be avoided.
"Homeownership has been under assault in many perspectives, certainly as it relates to foreclosures. We have some folks here today who are also available to talk about how clients can stem the tide of foreclosures, and stay in their homes," he says.
The housing fair is geared toward a wide range of buyers, with special counselors on hand for low and moderate income families.
