JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Jackson man was shot in the middle of an intersection on the city's west side Sunday evening.

It happened shortly before 8 p.m. in the 43 hundred block of Lynda Street, near Daniel Street. Police say Rico Davenport was shot multiple times in the lower abdomen. His injuries are considered life threatening.

Officers combed the area searching for clues. No weapon has been recovered.

Investigators believe the shooter is a male, but have very few details.

"It was some type of altercation which led to Davenport being shot. Right now, we don't have any suspects in custody, but we do have witnesses that noticed the incident. We are taking them down for questioning," said JPD Officer Colundula Green.

While on the scene of that shooting more gunfire was heard nearby.

Officers were not able to locate a shooter in that incident.
