US Supreme Court won't stop Miss. execution

PARMCHMAN, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi inmate faced a planned execution Tuesday for the killings of his 3-year-old daughter, his ex-wife and her parents after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to spare his life.

Jan Michael Brawner was to be put to death at 6 p.m. CDT at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman for his conviction in the April 25, 2001, killings. Court records say he stole his former mother-in-law's wedding ring in the attack and gave it to his girlfriend in proposing marriage that same day.

Corrections officials say the 34-year-old inmate had admitted to the killings and said he planned to apologize with his last words.

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to stop the execution on Tuesday. The Mississippi Supreme Court on Monday refused to stop it.
