JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Meridian man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after his conviction in a Hinds County Court.

Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith announced Wednesday Detrick Harris was found guilty of house burglary, armed robbery, auto theft, and convicted felon in possession of a weapon.

In May 2007, Harris broke into a home on Kingswood Avenue in Jackson. Armed with a butcher knife, he threatened and robbed an 89-year-old woman. Then he forced her to the ground, breaking her leg and dragged her throughout the house.

Harris took the woman's vehicle and fled to Lauderdale County where he was later apprehended. He was sentenced as a habitual offender and received four consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole.
