JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Hinds County Sheriff Tyrone Lewis has a 6-year plan to replace an aging fleet of vehicles.
Lewis tells The Clarion-Ledger that it would be more beneficial to replace the older ones with new vehicles than keep repairing what he has.
The department plans to use $114,000 set aside for resource officers to lease 10 new patrol vehicles. Drug asset money will be used to replace transportation vehicles.
Officials say what happens to the older vehicles will be determined by the county barn. They may be recycled for parts or sent to auction.
