Concerned citizen wants bridge fixed

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

One businessman contacts 3 On Your Side, concerned with how long it might take to repair a bridge on Joe Coker Road in Hinds County.

Broken support beams were easily visible under the bridge. Hinds County Public works says no timetable has been determined on when it will be open again. The state aide bridge was set to be replaced but county inspectors found it needed to be closed for safety concerns.

The owners of J.C.'s General Store say they've complained to Hinds County for three months about heavy equipment being driven over the bridge and the damage as well. Now, they're concerned the work will hurt their bottom line.

"That's gonna cut our business, I'd say by 80%. Most of our business comes from that area...Lake Lorman, Lake Cavalier area, which is straight down this road. They've got to go another five miles out of the way to get here now," said Store Owner, Scott Lively.

Hinds County says more right of way has to be purchased before the bridge can be repaired.
