RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Around 9:30am Saturday morning, Rankin County EOC dive teams pulled the body of Christopher Todd Martin, 22, out of a pond off Highway 49 South, just south of Florence.

Divers pulled a silver Mercury Mountaineer SUV out of the pond on 7th Day Road, 30 minutes prior to recovering Martin's body.  It had been almost completely submerged, about 30 feet from the bank.

Rankin County Deputy Coroner Cliff Dunlap says Martin lived on Traylor Road in Florence. His body was found about 50 feet away from the location of the vehicle in the pond.

Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey says it appears that the Mountaneer had been traveling south on 7th Day Road and went off to the right side, where the diver appeared to overcorrect, and lost control. Martin was ejected from the vehicle when it crashed into the water.

Several fire departments assisted Rankin County authorities in the search and recovery.
