3 Cars stolen in early morning house burglary

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

There was a home invasion in Northeast Jackson Monday morning.  Police believe as many as five people were involved and they confirmed that three cars were stolen in the incident.

The home of Jason Mattice at 4621 Maury Road, which is just north of Northside Drive in Northeast Jackson, was invaded about five a.m. Monday.  Three vehicles were stolen, a black Nissan Altima, a Volkswagen and a white Mercedes.

Mattice says he fired shots at the home invaders as they were leaving.  He is not sure if he hit anybody nor is he sure how many were involved.

Mattice says he lives at the address with his wife and two children.

Maury Road is an area where older houses have been bought, torn down and new much more expensive homes have been built, sometimes one home on two older lots.

"I'm just furious" said neighbor Sherry Hall. "I cannot believe something like has happened.  But lately we've had lots of strange people walking on our street and I'm wondering if it's tied to this."

Dennis Dell is also a resident in the area and says,

"These are kids but that makes it even worse because they're not afraid of anybody" said Dennis Dell, another neighbor. "Sooner or later someone is going to have to take someone's life.  And no one wants to do that.  But when you have to stay in your home with a pistol or shot-gun by you at night that makes people unsafe."

Assistant Chief Lee Vance says "Right now we don't have any proof of a forced entry" said Assistant Chief Lee Vance. " So again, right now we're calling it a burglary of an occupied dwelling."

Police have no suspects at this time. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Jackson Police or Crimestoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477).
