Good Samaritan finds, returns $13,000 in cash to owner

CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Clarksville man is being hailed a Good Samaritan after police said he found an abandoned bag containing nearly $13,000 in cash and helped return the money to its rightful owner.

Kenneth Allen was outside a convenience store Saturday evening on Peachers Mill Road when he spotted the bag sitting on top of a trash can, police said.

He checked inside the bag and saw the money along with a wallet, so he tried contacting the man identified by the wallet's driver's license.

When that was unsuccessful Allen called police, who identified the owner as a 51-year-old man they said had been hospitalized after suffering a reaction to his medication while at the convenience store earlier in the day.

Police contacted the owner, and they returned the bag along with the $12,764 inside.
