DPS coordinates unprecedented operation in Jeff. Davis County

JEFFERSON DAVIS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

More than 75 law enforcement officers from 10 federal, state and local agencies participated in an unprecedented operation to take down criminals in Jefferson Davis County over the weekend. 

The two-day operation resulted in the arrest of 6 people with outstanding warrants, 9 felony drug arrests, 6 misdemeanor drug arrests, and one federal gun charge. There were also 19 dui arrests, 257 traffic citations and $9,500 in cash was seized. 

"This weekend's activity is only the beginning," MHP Uniformed Division Director Lt. Colonel Mike Holmes said. "We, along with our partnering law enforcement entities, are committed to using the resources necessary to establish a safe environment in the community. The success of the operation shows what can be accomplished through a unified effort of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to ease uncertainty about crime among the residents of Jefferson Davis and the surrounding counties." 

Agencies involved in the efforts June 22 and 23 include the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, United States Marshal's Service, United States Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Attorney's Office, the District Attorney of Mississippi's 15th Circuit Court District and the Marion County Sheriff's Department.
