Sound Off: Habitat Houses

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A few years ago we started airing a weekly feature called "Taking Back our Neighborhoods." We have seen firsthand how individuals can make a difference. There is one organization that has made a world of difference.

Since 1986 Habitat for Humanity Metro Jackson has built more than 500 homes. There was a paid in full mortgage celebration for some of those early Habitat homeowners.

You see Habitat for Humanity doesn't just give homes to low income families. Habitat homeowners go through a screening process, put sweat equity in their home and are educated on financial matters. Habitat homes are built in areas that were once blighted and deteriorating. Companies, congregations and individuals are partner donors with Habitat.

We want to add our congratulations to those early homeowners and for all who work with Habitat for Humanity to truly Take Back our Neighborhoods.
