FRANKLIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A highway worker from Hinds County was struck and killed Tuesday by a distracted driver in Franklin County.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol says 32-year-old Joseph A. Woodward from Edwards was killed when he was hit by car driven by 19-year-old April L. Watson of McCall Creek.

Woodward was working with a crew on Highway 84 putting warning strips on the highway.

The highway patrol says Watson "became distracted" and veered into the lane where Woodward was standing next to a pick up truck owned by Lane Line out of Flowood.

Watson hit Woodward and the truck. Woodward was pronounced dead on the scene.
