JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Meeting planners from all over the metro area gathered in Jackson Tuesday to learn about the many attractions the capital city has to offer.
The familiarization event was held at the Jackson Convention Complex and featured educational sessions on a variety of topics of interest to meeting planners. There was also a trade show highlighting Jackson hotels and attractions.
"That's what we want, to showcase Jackson to many players that are based here in Jackson, that represent conventions and associations from all over the country and really all over -- they have attendees from all over the world coming to Jackson," said Marika Cackett with the Jackson Convention and Visitors Bureau. "So, we are a very unique market and one of the things to know is that, because we are still in a recession, our economy is rebounding. Even though we are in a recession, you still have to have meetings and conventions."
Last year, meetings and conventions brought in almost $50 million dollars and nearly 240,000 visitors to Jackson.
