An early morning raid on a Madison County home resulted in the arrest of a violent offender from California.
Lawmen are crediting a Crimestoppers tip with the capture of a wanted fugitive in the wee hours of the morning. Tyrin Thomas surrendered. Some 30 officers from multiple jurisdictions teamed up to make the arrest.
Thomas was wanted for two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of attempted murder in California. 43-year-old Thomas was hiding out on Dampeer Road at this trailer home. The home was owned by a relative, according to the U.S. Marshal's Service.
During a news conference at the Madison County Sheriff's office Wednesday afternoon, officials said Thomas was a member of the Crips gang in Los Angeles.
According to Madison/Rankin County District Attorney Michael Guest, "We have verified they will extradite him back. These are violent offenses, attempted murder, aggravated assault and other firearm related offenses. We had the officer verify he is gang affiliated and had fled California to Madison County to avoid prosecution, has a lengthy rap sheet involving kidnapping and other violent crimes in California."
He is being held in the Madison County jail and will face a judge Friday morning.
