BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Hundreds of people missed the comfort of their own beds to win some free food. The first 100 people who arrived to the brand new Chick-fil-A in Brandon received free Chick-fil-A meals for one year.

Doors opened to the new restaurant around 6:00 A.M. Thursday, but many of the people who made the first 100 spots arrived with tents early Wednesday morning.

The owner of the new restaurant said events like this are all about helping out the community.

"It's just a fun way to open up the business we certainly want to make a lot of money and be profitable and have a lot of sales, but the most important thing is to have an impact on the community and touch the lives of these folks," said Keys Hayes.

Chick-fil-A started offering free coupons for meals for the first 100 people at new restaurants in 2003. Since then Chick-fil-A has given away more than $16 million in free food.
