Brewers and distributors rush stronger beer into Mississippi

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Brewers and distributors are poised to rush stronger beer into Mississippi early Sunday.

July 1st marks the start of a new law that allows higher-alcohol beer to be made and sold in the Magnolia State.

The new law allows beer with 8% alcohol by weight, or 10% by volume, to be sold in Mississippi. That's up from the previous limit of 5% alcohol by weight.

The higher-alcohol beer can't enter the state until midnight Sunday, but brewers including Louisiana's Abita Brewing Company, Tennessee's Yazoo Brewing Company and Mississippi's Lazy Magnolia Brewing Company plan to send trucks to wholesalers Sunday morning.
