Police: Mother foils son's armed robbery attempt

BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Brandon police say a mother foiled her son's armed robbery attempt this morning.

It happened around 11:30 at D's 1 Stop convenience store on Highway 80.

Detectives say 22-year-old Roy Mitchell pulled out a gun when the clerk opened the cash register and demanded all the money.

At that time, his mother walked up, grabbed the gun and told him to leave the store.

She then told the clerk the gun wasn't real and asked the clerk not to call the police.

The pair drove to Pelahatchie with another woman in the car where they were stopped by an officer.

Police say they found a plastic gun in the car that looked real.

Mitchell was arrested and charged with attempted armed robbery.   His mom was not charged.

Another woman in the car was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
