Former Milwaukee Brewers and Oakland A's pitcher Ben Sheets shook off nearly two years of baseball rust Wednesday at Trustmark Park.
Sheets tossed five innings for the Mississippi Braves in the 4-2 loss to the Jackson Generals.
It was his first professional appearance since July 19, 2010.
Sheets gave up four earned runs on five hits but struck out six in the 74-pitch performance.
The third-largest crowd in MBraves' history was on hand at Trustmark Park to watch Sheets make his Pearl debut and celebrate Independence Day.
He is scheduled to start again for the MBraves against Birmingham on July 9.
