Judge denies JPD officer bond

A federal judge has denied bond for a Jackson Police Officer who wanted out of jail to await trial on charges that he and two other officers took bribes.

U.S. District Judge Daniel Jordan refused to grant bond for Monyette Quintel Jefferson after a hearing in Jackson on Thursday. The government opposed Jefferson's attempt to be released because prosecutors say he's dangerous.

Jefferson was arraigned in March with Terence Dale Jenkins and Anthony Ricardo Payne. In a six-count indictment, Jefferson is accused of accepting more than $20,000 in bribes and Jenkins and Payne are accused of accepting $10,000 each.

Their trial is set for Aug. 7. All three have pleaded not guilty.
