ISSAQUENA COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
The body of a Rankin County woman was found early Sunday morning in a lake in Issaquena County, and now authorities are trying to determine how she died.
Issaquena County Coroner Angela Williams said the woman's body was recovered from the landing at Chotard Lake around 1:20 a.m.
The coroner said the white female is a 52-years-old Richland resident.
The woman's name has not been released.
Family members told WLBT Sunday evening that the victim lived in Richland, and was on a weekend trip with friends at Chotard Lake Saturday when she died.
That relative says authorities are holding a male friend in connection with the death investigation.
Coroner Williams says the Rankin County woman was fully clothed when her body was discovered face down in the water at the landing.
Issaquena County Sheriff Richard Jones has not released any details and says the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations is assisting his department.
So far they have not shared any information.
Coroner Williams said there were no obvious wounds to the woman's body.
An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the actual cause of death.
