A former Mississippi attorney is asking the Federal Appeals Court in New Orleans to overturn his guilty plea in a judicial bribery case.
Zach Scruggs pleaded guilty in 2008 to misprision of a felony which means he failed to report knowledge that a colleague spoke illegally to a judge.
He served 14 months in prison, paid a $250,000 fine and lost his law license.
Scruggs claims he did not know about a scheme to bribe the judge presiding over a legal fees lawsuit against his father, imprisoned attorney Richard "Dickie" Scruggs and others.
Zach Scruggs' hearing is scheduled for Monday.
