One dead in Jackson house fire

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

One man is dead after an early morning house fire in Jackson. The fire started in a house located at 1039 Marine Street. That's near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Six fire trucks were called to the "fully" involved house fire just after 4:30 A.M. Tuesday.

The Hinds County coroner says the victim is 59-year-old James Ward. His body was found in the living room. An autopsy will be performed Wednesday to confirm the cause of death.

Just before the fire started, the owner of the house went to the store with a friend. When the two came back, the house was completely engulfed in flames.

Investigators have little information on how this fire started.

"We do know that it may have originated in what would appear to be a bedroom of this particular structure and as we get more information we'll provide that," said Jackson's Chief Fire Investigator Greg Travis.

The Red Cross is providing emergency help to the homeowner.
