Emergency crews are working to remove trees and power lines that fell this morning at the intersection of Northview Drive and Mayes Street.
A huge tree fell round 9:30 across a house at 303 Mayes Street. There was a woman inside, but she was not injured.
There were widespread power outages in the area from the tree breaking power lines. There were also limbs from another tree that fell across lines at the bridge over the railroad tracks on Mayes Street just past north West Street.
"A tree this big, and full of green leaves, they get heavy and something has got to give" said Maurice Bozeman, who operates a tree service. "They gonna come down. And I tell anybody, they got any old trees in their yard, go ahead and cut them down."
Entergy says 985 customers lost power when the line went down. One 5 customers were still without power at noon.
