Largest meth bust in Hinds County history

Hinds County Sheriff Tyrone Lewis said the department made the largest methamphetamine bust in the county's history during a traffic stop on Monday morning.

According to Lewis, investigators seized 10 kilograms of "ice", which has an estimated street value of $1.03 million.  The seizure was made on Interstate 20 at mile marker 25, when a sheriff's official pulled over a Volkswagen at 12:45 AM Monday.

A K9 unit conducted a search of the vehicle, which contained 4 adults and an infant girl.  The K9 picked-up an odor that narcotics were in the car and investigators discovered 10 packages of meth in a secret compartment under the center console.

Only one of the adults was taken into custody and Alberto Moralles Alejandre is charged with Possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute.
