Dad's career might influence birth defects

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

While dad is often the stereotypical breadwinner of the family -- what he does to earn that income has now been linked to birth defects in children.

Researchers polled 5,000 fathers. One-thousand had children with a birth defect.

Their findings drew a link between certain jobs and an increased risk for babies born with defects -- including computer scientists, artists, photographers, landscapers, drivers and those operating cranes and diggers.

Much more research is needed.
