BRANDON, Miss. (AP) - The Rankin County School Board has approved a $171 million budget for fiscal year 2013, which started this month.
The Clarion-Ledger reports that the district is not seeking a tax increase despite underfunding by the state and the need to make a larger contribution to the retirement system.
The district plans to reduce its debt service millage 1.83 mills and apply that revenue to operations. That will give the district enough money to operate while keeping the overall millage at 49.92 mills. The budget includes a step pay increase for all teachers and a 2% increase for other personnel.
