CANTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
A Madison County church goes up in flames after a thunderstorm rolled through the area Saturday morning.
It happened about 6:45 a.m. at New Beginning M.B. Church, on Highway 16 just outside of Canton.
Madison County EMA Director Butch Hammack says witnesses heard a loud clap of thunder and a short time later the church was on fire.
The blaze may have been started by lightning but a state fire marshal's investigation will determine the actual cause.
The church was a total loss.
Farmhaven Volunteer Fire Department and Canton Firefighters put out the flames.
No one was inside at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
