Jackson man apprehended after standoff

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A police standoff in south Jackson ended without serious injury Sunday afternoon.

Cedrick Bridges, 27, walked out of the house at 705 Verdemont Drive and acted as though he was surrendering, but quickly turned to go back inside.

Police were able to take him into custody, ending the hour and a half stand off.

Investigators say they received two calls about Bridges and 24-year April Porter arguing outside about 1:25 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Officers believe at one point Bridges drug Porter into the house after she ran out screaming.

When no one answered the door for officers, the house was surrounded and a hostage negotiator was called in.

"Those hostage negotiators from the Jackson Police Department did an excellent job and we did have our S.W.A.T. Team on standby, they were actually rolling and we turned them around in process because everything went so fast and so smoothly," said JPD, Deputy Chief Eric Wall.

Four children were inside the home during the stand off. They were not injured.

Porter had minor injuries.

Bridges is charged with simple domestic violence. He also had a domestic violence warrant out for his arrest.
