Jackson Ward 3 election Tuesday

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jackson Ward 3 voters go back to the polls Tuesday to elect a city council representative.

Larita Cooper Stokes was elected to the city council for Ward 3 this past February in a run-off election against opponent Joyce Jackson. Jackson, filed a lawsuit challenging that election.

Last month a Hinds County jury found evidence of irregularities during the election.

The city council set a new election for this Tuesday.

Jackson says she feels confident voters will turn out and has big plans for the area.

"It's been in bad shape for 20 years and nothing done about it. So, I plan on helping to fix Ward 3 and make it a beautiful city. I know that it's gonna happen. It's gonna happen because the people are gonna help me make it happen."

Stokes believes voters will turnout to elect her.

"We gone do the right thing, and we're asking for justice on Tuesday," says Stokes.

Polls open at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
