The breast cancer drug Afinitor was approved for use by postmenopausal women with what's called hormone receptor-positive disease.
In clinical trials, the drug was shown to be effective when tumors became resistant to traditional therapies.
The FDA also approved Kyprolis to treat multiple myeloma -- or cancer of the bone marrow.
The drug successfully shrank tumors in 23-percent of patients who had relapsed after being treated with at least two other medications.
