Batman movie evacuated at Bowtie Cinema

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

We're hearing from people who were inside Richmond's Bowtie Cinema during a scare, at a late showing of the "Dark Knight Rises".

Two hours into the movie - the alarms went off, the movie stopped and security evacuated the building.

It turns out...it was a false alarm.

Richmond Fire confirms that a popcorn machine was just tipped over. But, the people in the theater didn't learn that until much later.

"With what happened in Colorado my adrenaline just immediately kicked it in. It wasn't a panic mode, but I was ready to do whatever had to be done at that point," said John Henry Burkeland III who was in the theater.

"Anytime you go to the theatre you go to it you see it and then you leave. To have that happen during Batman, late at night around 12:30 it was really confusing and really frightening at the same time," added another movie goer Paul Peters.

No one was hurt. Bowtie Cinema did not return our calls for comment.
