JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Students across the Jackson area head back to school next month and lots of students need your help before they hit the books in August. You can help students start the school year off right by "Stuffing the Bus" with school supplies.

The community is encouraged to buy back-to-school items and stuff a yellow school bus located outside of the Office Depot on I-55 North in Jackson. You can "Stuff the Bus" until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25.

The school supplies you donate will go to students in the Jackson, Madison, Clinton, Ridgeland, Pearl and Rankin school districts.

Some of the many items needed include 8 line manuscript tablets, pink pearl or art gum erasers, hand sanitizer, Kleenex, red ink pens and school uniforms.

"The need is actually really tremendous for school supplies, for school uniforms families are really working hard to make ends meet so any relief we can give them we want to. We definitely want to support our students," said Mandy Scott from the United Way.

"By ensuring that students have supplies that they need that makes life a little easier for our teachers because often they go out and purchase supplies for kids themselves," said Rebecca Starling, the Director for the Jackson Public School's "Partners In Education," program.

"Stuff the Bus" is a collaborative effort between Office Depot, Raising Cane's, WLBT and several other local businesses.

Feel free to drop off school supplies at the Office Depot off of I-55 on Frontage Road until 6 Wednesday night.

You can also drop school supplies off at the WLBT studio. The address is 715 S. Jefferson Street in Jackson.
