JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
One day after winning a special election to retain her seat on the Jackson city council, LaRita Cooper-Stokes is planning to ask the Hinds County District Attorney's office for an investigation into the election fraud trial.
Cooper-Stokes will request that the D.A.'s office look into allegations of perjury by witnesses called to testify about voting irregularities during the February 28 special run-off election.
Councilwoman Cooper-Stokes says statements made under oath in court are legally binding and witnesses who made false statements may be liable for perjury.
Cooper-Stokes won 53 percent of the votes over challenger Joyce Jackson.
